Otto /ˈätʰʌʊ/, also known as Mr. Horace Zonto, Grotto, Mr. To, and The Dog is Jerma's pet dog. Otto is around 12 years old (as of August 2023), but his exact age is unknown because he's a rescue dog. He adopted Jerma on March 9th, 2012 and first appeared in a Vlog uploaded the day after.

In late 2015, Otto contracted Addison's Disease. Fortunately, although he now has to take steroids, Otto seems to be doing well. Physically, much like his owner, Otto is a very dense, compact boomer dog.

On the 2019 New Years Eve stream, Jerma confirmed that, according to a DNA test, Otto is:

Otto frequently appears in Jerma's streams, usually at the end of a stream and for a few seconds only. Streams are listed below in which Otto appeared in a special way or was particularly in focus.

Human: Fall Flat

At the beginning of the Human: Fall Flat-Stream (with Ster and Etalyx) on August 1, 2018, Jerma accidentally added a second player to the game. For a short while he had to control two characters at the same time because of this: One being a pirate, his main character, and the second being Otto. After a while he figured out how to play only one character and chose the Pirate for the rest of the stream.

JermaSlots

Otto has a cameo appearance in the Steam game JermaSlots. Within in the game's Byeah-Minigame, Otto sits at the corner of the sidewalk, right at the beginning of the first level. When Jerma streamed the game on the April 6, 2019 he did not comment on Otto's Cameo, despite it clearly being on screen.

On the October 28, 2020 Jerma had to do an unplanned stream, because the SUS! command on his twitch channel was programmed falsely to show a stream happening at that time. Jerma realized this too late to cancel the stream so he named it the "guilt stream". Because of the rushed planning and other games already being planned to be played live for following days, Jerma streamed Otto and himself chillin' for 45 minutes. This was the first ever Otto-stream with Otto clearly being the focus of the entire event. Things Otto did were laying on his back and side, playing with his flamingo and hedgehog toy, laying his head on his Wailord toy, eating, getting annoyed by Jerma watching the No More Heroes 3 trailer and other stuff dogs do. The stream was highly endorsed by Chat and Jerma's viewers, which is proven by peaking at 12k viewers and pulling in an average of 10k viewers in total. Jerma stated that this topped his last VR streams. The stream was even nominated for Best Overall Stream at the JermAwards 2020.

Community Made Games

On November 19, 2021 Jerma streamed himself playing community made games, one of the being the free to play steam game Jerma and Otto: The Curse of the Late Streamer. The goal of the point and click game is to fulfill certain tasks, making Jerma able to start a twitch stream. One of the main goals in order to achieve that is to find Otto and take him for a walk. This goal is achieved shortly before the end of the game by following clues left by Otto. Otto appears in the game multiple times e.g. on a PC screen and at the very end.

Jerma Rumble - Live Action (Cancelled)

In Jerma's "Post-Rumble" stream that aired on September 2nd, 2016, Jerma revealed that he planned to have his dog Otto as a contender in the Live Action Rumble. Jerma explained he wanted Otto to be one of the late contenders in the Live Action Rumble where in his entry, the real Otto would simply walk up to the arena and then after a cut there would be a large muscular man with a dog mask in Otto's place. Along with not having someone fitting enough to play Otto's role, the Live arena was extremely hot, and Jerma did not want to cause any needless harm for Otto.

Jermania - Late Edition

Rumble 1 (Canon)

Otto's first (and only) appearance in a Jerma Rumble was during Jermania Late Edition 2018. Otto entered as contestant #23. After 2 minutes in the ring, he eliminated Jerma Raptor. 4 minutes later he was himself eliminated by The Quiet Man.

Rumble 2 (Non-Canon)

During the second Rumble he entered as contestant #11, but was eliminated after only 12 seconds by B.F. Bugleberry, which made him the fastest unscripted elimination in any rumble - a record he shared with The Syringe Clown, who also only lasted 12 Seconds. During Jermania 2020 this record got taken away from them by the McDLT Briefcase Guy, who got eliminated 10 seconds after the beginning of the match.

Trivia

• According to the Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale stream, Otto's name was originally going to be "Bandit".
• Otto is Jerma's sole remaining link to human morality.
• Jerma nicknamed him "Mr. Horace Zonto" because of his tendency to sleep horizontally, according to the Patapon 2 stream.
• As revealed in the April 23rd Community Content Night, Otto has become attached to a giant Wailord plushie that Jerma was forced at gunpoint by Twitch chat to buy on a previous stream.
• Otto's home state is Tennessee.
• Jerma had a similar dachshund before Otto who was named Simon, who can be seen here. He was fairly old at the time, being born in 1994, and passed away at the age of 17 in February 2012. Jerma talks about Simon's life and passing here.
• Otto voted for Kanye West in the 2020 Presidential Election.
• Otto is known to have a "savory smell" to him when he's asleep.
  • Despite this, when he's awake, he is known to smell like a fish.
• Otto once got so tired of Jerma failing at HITMAN 3 VR that he disconnected the headset cable himself.
• Starting in 2019, "Best Otto Moment" has been a reoccurring category at the annual JermAwards.
