Jerma Lore Wiki

Twitch Chat, colloquially referred to simply as Chat, is the embodiment of Jerma's viewership on Twitch and is well known for influencing many of Jerma's decisions. Chat by its nature represents the popular will of the viewership as a whole, while more individual actors are referred to as One Guy. Some may also point themselves out by exclaiming "Me :)" on certain occasions. Chat arguably rivals Jerma in power level, since he is necessarily compelled to cater to his viewership as part of his occupation. Without Chat there is no Jerma, and vice versa. That being said, Chat's major weakness is that they are made up of thousands of individual actors and are prone to internal disagreement. When unified, however, Chat exerts incredible influence and are practically able to dictate the stream.

Twitch Chat is a member of the Twitch Chat species. Other members of the Twitch Chat species are Chat, from the RTGame fandom; and Twitch Chat, from the DougDoug fandom.

History[]

Chat was manifested when Jerma first streamed on Twitch back in 2011. Most of them were viewers who were already subscribed to his YouTube channel at the time, though chat has grown since then and now many people don't even know more vintage Jerma memes like Shpees.

The power of chat seems to grow the more viewers a stream has. For example, during The Dollhouse day 3 stream, Chat reached an all time peak of 101k viewers. With this massive size, Chat grew extremely powerful. Chat soon became more powerful than even Jerma himself. Using this power, Chat eventually decided to remove Jerma from the stream entirely via eviction. A new streamer very soon replaced Jerma as host, who Chat immediately attempted to brutally kill for the simple reason that they were not Jerma, despite the fact they chose to evict Jerma themselves minutes prior. Chat also reached a concurrent viewcount of 24.6k during The Carnival, this is the most physically powerful chat has ever been, using their full force to operate the machinery. Together, Chat managed to hit Jerma in the face with a frog, win numerous minigames, and dunk him into a water tank.

Relationship with Jerma[]

Chat has been compared to a horde of wild chimpanzees that Jerma is locked in a room with and has to keep entertained if he doesn't want them to tear him to shreds. Chat could appropriately be described as tsundere, tormenting Jerma with cruel jokes and antagonizing him frequently while secretly holding great affection and love for their favorite streamer, which sometimes come to show in donation messages or more serious moments during streams. Even more fittingly, Chat likes to pretend that they totally don't find him handsome, resorting to calling him bald, short and old. While Chat does enjoy watching Jerma suffer, scream, and cry, they do tend to root for him when the stakes are high, rejoicing his triumphs and mourning his low-points. Examples of this are when he fought Gael or finally beat Jump King.

Jerma has done multiple chat-interactive streams in the past, such as the Detective Stream, the Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Stream, the Carnival, the Secret Slime Stream, and the Green Screen Movie Night. Part of what makes Jerma such a unique streamer is how much he interacts with the chat and tries to get the viewers involved.

Pre-Stream Chat[]

Pre stream chat

There exists a subsection of Chat spoken of only in confidentiality through hushed voices and frightened whispers. This mythological group is known only as Pre-Stream Chat. Said to comprise the Chat members deluded enough to remain in Twitch Chat when Jerma isn't streaming, the legends invariably depict them as a kabal of shadowy figures. Paradoxically violating the standard principle of Chat being powerful in numbers, Pre-Stream Chat is said to exert immeasurable influence despite their small numbers. This archaic power is said to be derived from direct commune with the One Who Streams himself. Contact with the eldritch being has been described as anything from casual discourse to masochistic games of Strawpoll. One could describe Pre-Stream Chat as existing on a mid-point between One Guy and ordinary Chat. Research shows that they spend most of their time debating amongst themselves, and off-puttingly, are actually not summoners of the One Who Streams but are rather contacted by Him at random intervals. The nature of these timings remain largely unknowable, but insider information reveals that He is most likely to appear shortly before a scheduled stream.

Jerma has joked about and referenced Pre-Stream Chat during streams, mentioning their immense influence and their power to dictate streams in ways that remain largely unknown to the rest of Chat.

In the Ring[]

Jermania 2017[]

The personification of Chat appeared in Jermania 2017, resembling a large man in a bodysuit with the Twitch logo as its face and a section of chat messages such as "Compact streamer LUL" emblazoned along its entire body. Upon entering the ring, Chat immediately got into a fight with Jerma himself and eliminated him, true to its nature. It also eliminated Garfield and Hollow Knight, leaving it as the final wrestler in the ring to face off against Captain Cheez-It. Thankfully, Chat couldn't defeat Captain Cheez-It and was eliminated, just barely missing their shot at glory.

Known Weaknesses[]

Due to the incredible potential of Twitch Chat, its weaknesses should be noted for future generations.

  • In order to manifest, Twitch Chat must have a suitable internet connection. It is unknown if Chat can connect via 3G or 4G rather than Wi-Fi or Ethernet. It should also be noted that Chat's power level is dependent on the internet connection of its members.
  • If Jerma is not currently streaming, Chat cannot manifest in the same form, although it still can manifest if another streamer is streaming, albeit much weaker and not inclined to wrestle. It has been shown in the hiatus months that chat can strive even without Jerma985 streaming, they call themselves pre-chat, but due to their lower numbers, research on the capabilities of this manifestation is still inconclusive.
  • In recent years, Twitch Chat has been distinguished between three forms: pre-stream, in-stream, and post-stream. It never dies, it only goes to rest for small spurts. Beware the beast.
  • r9k mode/slow mode is debilitating to Twitch Chat. If any of these are enabled, Twitch Chat will suffer slower reaction times and have a lesser influence.
  • Due to the nature of Chat being a manifestation of all current viewers, disturbances such as spammers will disorient Chat and could cause the activation of slow mode or r9k.
  • Chat is prone to getting easily bored if they dislike something on stream, even to the point where they might leave in big numbers. They will usually spam the ResidentSleeper emote to foreshadow this. Remaining members of Chat will usually say something akin to "DROPPING VIEWERS OMEGALUL". A number of events are notable for causing this phenomenon, including:
    • Any appearance of B. F. Bugleberry.
    • Game releases or a boring stream.
    • Peaceful or uneventful games.
    • Fall Jokes.
    • When Jerma plays something chat deems boring, including many older games like Dreamcast or 3DO titles.
    • Anime (specifically, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure).

Trivia[]

  • Discord User stick#0391 created a website, which lets you play a quiz in which you have to guess whether or not the shown message is created by an AI or a real message of Twitch Chat. It can be found here.
  • Jerma's Twitch chat was briefly shown in a BBC News segment about V-Tubers and online harassment. The chat sample was taken from Jerma's Custom Robo stream.
